Royal Seeds Aubergine ‘Violetta Lunga’ (Eggplant)
€3.20 “Price excl. VAT: €3.20”
Aubergine ‘Violetta lunga’ – Solanum melongena Aubergines, or eggplants, are grown for their dark purple, glossy, tear-shaped fruits, which are delicious when cooked. This classic Italian aubergine is typically used in Emilia Romagna to make the tasty parmigiana di melanzane, aubergines baked with tomatoes, garlic and parmesan. A very productive, mid-early variety, ‘Violetta Lunga’ as its name suggests produces long (20cm), deep purple fruits, which are slightly curved. It offers depth of flavour and good texture, with very few seeds inside.
Sow seeds in moisture-retentive seed compost about 9-10 weeks before setting-out date, starting in warm conditions indoors.
The plants need warmth to do well, so grow in a greenhouse in cooler climes; in warmer climates they can be grown on outdoors. Space seedlings at 40cm intervals. When flowers start mist daily.
