Opuntia azurea (Purple Prickly Pear Cactus) 13cm Pot

Opuntia or Prickly pear cactus is a popular houseplant with flat, oval, segmented stems covered in spines. The segments often grow in pairs and can resemble bunny ears. In summer, it produces flowers along the edges of the stems.

Native to deserts, Opuntias thrive in hot, sunny, dry conditions. Their fleshy stems store water, making them highly drought tolerant and low maintenance.

Grow in free-draining cactus compost in a bright, warm spot above 10°C. Water only when the soil is completely dry from spring to autumn, allowing excess to drain away. Keep dry in winter and move to a cooler place. Handle carefully, as the spines are sharp and can be difficult to remove from skin.
