Ilex crenata ‘Dark Green’ (Japanese Holly) 14cm Pot

8.99 “Price excl. VAT: 7.92

Ilex crenata, commonly called Japanese holly or box-leaved holly, is a slow-growing evergreen shrub. It’s a popular alternative to box (Buxus sempervirens) because it is more cold-tolerant and not affected by box blight or box moth. It works well as a green backdrop for colourful plants, shapes nicely into balls and grows well in pots.

Ilex crenata ‘Dark Green’ has deep green, rounded leaves that look very similar to true box leaves.

  • Plant in full sun or partial shade
  • Prefers moist, well-drained soil
  • Best in acidic soil, but tolerates neutral to alkaline
  • Prune hedges or topiary in late summer; freestanding shrubs need little pruning
  • Mulch annually in autumn with compost or well-rotted manure

Supplied in a 14cm pot
