Ficus carica (Fig Tree) 24cm Pot, Height 150cm, Standard
€79.99 “Price excl. VAT: €79.99”
Sweet, succulent figs may sound like exotic treats for warmer climates, but you can enjoy home-grown figs in Ireland too.
In warmer regions, figs can produce two crops each year. In Ireland’s cooler climate, the early breba crop is usually the most reliable to ripen, while later figs may struggle to mature before autumn temperatures drop.
Grow Ficus carica in a sunny, sheltered position, ideally against a south-facing wall. Figs can also be grown in containers, where restricted root growth can help encourage fruiting.
Plant in fertile, well-drained soil, adding well-rotted manure or garden compost if needed. Apply a mulch of compost or well-rotted manure annually to feed the plant and help retain moisture. Figs can also be grown in a greenhouse or conservatory, where the extra warmth can help improve fruit ripening.
