Equisetum hyemale is a spreading, evergreen perennial with a striking architectural habit. It features reed-like, hollow green stems marked with distinctive black ridges, giving it a bold, structural appearance. In spring and summer, brown spore cones appear on the fertile stems.

Best grown in boggy, moisture-retentive soil or in a basket at pond margins, where it will thrive in consistently wet conditions and add strong vertical interest.
