Didymochlaena truncatula (Mahogany Maidenhair Fern) in 6cm Pot

3.99 “Price excl. VAT: 3.52

An evergreen with long, mid-green fronds divided into wedge-shaped leaflets reminiscent of the maidenhair tree (Ginkgo biloba), and tinged red when young. An unusual tropical fern for a shady, humid spot such as a bathroom corner or a kitchen shelf out of direct sun.

Grow in moist but well-drained, humus-rich compost in bright, filtered light with high humidity, possibly by introducing a water-filled pebble tray to avoid browning leaf-tips. Didymochlaena are best kept moist for reliable summer growth. Allow the soil’s top third to dry in between waters, reducing this slightly further in the autumn and winter. A position that offers indirect light must be assured, due to their susceptibility to sun-scorch.
