Plant your gladioli corm 10-15cm (8-10in) deep in the spring , plant a fresh batch every two weeks to have a succession of flowers throughout the summer months. If you have a heavy soil you can grow in containers, or when you plant throw in a double handful of grit, sand or fine gravel into the planting hole before planting to improve drainage around the corm. Remove the flowers as they fade but leave the foliage intact, once it has died back to the ground. If you are feeling ambitious and you have grown your glad’s in a hot sunny location, lift the corms and dry off in a cool ventilated room before overwintering with a little dry peat in a box or hessian sack.
